Día de las Glorias Navales

​Navy day (Día de las Glorias Navales) is a Chilean national holiday. The Chilean Navy is comprised of 25,000 personnel, including 5,200 Marines. The celebration is to commemorate the Battle of Iquique that took place during the War of the Pacific in 1879. Chile lost the battle gravely with 143 deaths. The date May 21 is recognized as an anniversary of the Navy.
